Carterville- Floyd Vernon Leeper, age 93, of Carterville, passed away at 7:00pm on Monday, December 31, 2018 at his home.

 

Floyd was born in Herrin on July 31, 1925, the son of Isaac “Ike” Frances and Leona Leeper. He married Margaret Maxine Gooden in Piggott, Arkansas on July 25, 1947. She preceded him in death on January 16, 2005.

 

Prior to his retirement, Floyd was a coal miner for forty-two years. He was a member of the Williamson Masonic Lodge #802 as well as a member of the Anaid Shrine of East St. Louis and Scottish Rite of Belleville.

 

Survivors include-

Son and daughter-in-law- Floyd Wayne and Temduang Leeper of Herrin

Three Grandchildren- Matthew James and Julie Ann Leeper of Terre Haute, IN

Tammy Lynn Minion of Oklahoma

Chad Minion of Oklahoma

Two Great Grandsons- Alexander Rhyu Leeper of Avon, IN

Landon James Leeper- Terre Haute, IN

Sister- Loretta Cox of Tennessee

Sister-in-law- Ruby Leeper of Herrin

Several Nieces, Nephews, and Great Nieces and Nephews

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son- Rodger Dale Leeper, six brothers- Harold, Don, Frances, Carl, Alvie, and William Leeper, and two sisters- Clara Marie Foster and Cleta Mae Shemwell.

 

A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Masonic rites will follow services at the funeral home. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 11AM until 1 PM on Saturday at the funeral home at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
