Donnie Dean Barnett, 81, of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, October 09, 2018 at 4:25 am at River-to-River Assisted Living.

Donnie was born August 29, 1937 in Williamson County the son of Delbert Hiram Enoch and Mary Hollice (Graves) Barnett. He married Carolyn Sue Engram on June 16, 1963 in Marion and together they shared 44 years of marriage until her death on May 11, 2007.

He was a veteran and retired after working over 30 years as a welder for Caterpillar in Joilet. Following retirement they returned to Marion, enjoying traveling, fishing and carpentry. Donnie attended Apostolic churches and sang bass in a church quartet.

Survivors include his: Sister-in-law – Doris June Barnett of Creal Springs

Sister-in-law – Violet Chambers of Carterville

Brother-in-law – Frank Engram (Marilyn) of Herrin

Several nieces and nephews

Several great and great great nieces and nephews

Preceded by his Parents, Wife, two brothers – Delbert Lee Barnett, Lory Barnett, brother-in-law – Jack Engram, Sister-in-laws – Dolores Waller and Marilyn Wheatly.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 12 pm at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Brother RG Null officiating. Burial will follow in Egyptian Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 11 am until the time of service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the families preference is memorials to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois 62959.

    I was so sorry to see the obit in the Southern Illinoisan newspaper today. Bro. & Sis. Barnett attended church with me for many years when they lived in Romeoville…very precious couple! We had kept in touch with Christmas cards each year, which he kept up until 2017. My prayers for comfort for his family & friends
