Ruth Shoot, 98, of Marion passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 7:25 pm at Parkway Manor.

Ruth was born one of eleven children to Joseph and Lillian (Bennett) Worth on October 18, 1918. She married Rex Shoot in Chicago on September 1, 1938 and together they shared over 64 years of marriage until his death on November 8, 2002.

Ruth’s family was the most important thing to her and she spent her life sharing her joy with them and always putting them first. When anyone was in the hospital, she either visited, sent cards, or took a meal or baked goody. She was always sending cards to people, whether it was a get well greeting, thinking of you card, thank you note, plus the usual birthday, anniversary or holiday greeting cards. She loved to have people over for a meal and would send leftovers home with her kids. Christmas Eve she was up and down all night making homemade coffee cakes, baked them in the morning and delivered them hot to family and neighbors. Our guess is she’ll become a cook in Heaven. Those of you who have been a recipient of one of her pies, cobblers, cakes, blueberry muffins, coffee cakes, beef and noodles, chicken and dumplings, chop suey, etc. know what we mean.

She was a former member of the Marion Senior Citizens Kitchen Band and Wednesday night ladies bowling league. She was a member of the Jr. Women’s and Carpenter’s Ladies Auxiliary.

After the tears have dried and the goodbyes have been said, all we have to hold onto are the happy memories that we’ve shared with our loved ones who have passed, this is what keeps them alive in our hearts and in our minds, and they will continue to live on, through us.
My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time. May the comfort of God help you during this time of need.

She was always Grandma to me; we had fun and many good times and laughs throughout the years. At last she is no longer suffering the intense pain she had the past few months. Rest in peace, Grandma, and yeah “I’ll have a beer for you!”
You will be missed by all of us who knew you.
As you always called me, “Harper.”

We feel so blessed to have been a part of Ruth and her families life. Life was always so much happier when she was in the room because she loved life and people and we all loved her so dearly. In time the wonderful memories will take the place of the pain of loss but for now, know we are holding you close in prayer and know the Lord has a beautiful place for her and she is doing well in His mansion. She has completed the plans He had for her and she is at peace in His loving arms.

Ruth, we loved you like family. We could always count on you to send us a lovely Christmas card. You were always interested on how things were going on with our family. And how can we ever forget the wonderful Italian cream cake you’d always make when you were visiting Tom and Shirley and invited us over to indulge. Your warmth and love was contagious. I know we will see you again on the other side. Thanks for allowing us to be part of your life – blessings, from the Dubes

We are so sadden to hear of Ruth’s passing. She was a lovely person who we have known since the 1960′s when Tom and Shirley got married. We remember her fried chicken and cobblers and her always great sense of humor. Just like Tom, we too will have a beer for you. God Bless you and your Family.
