Herrin- Donald A. Gibbs, age 65, of Herrin, passed away at 7:37pm on Monday, July 28, 2014 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Donald was born in WilliamsonCounty on September 8, 1948, the son of Jehu and Mandy (Griffith) Gibbs. He married Rose Stoner on August 23, 1976. She preceded him in death on June 4, 1998.

Mr. Gibbs was proud to be a United States Army Veteran, having served during the Vietnam War. Donald was a retired electrician.

Survivors include his daughter- Diana Gibbs of Pekin

Daughter- Monica and Paul Marks of Goreville

Daughter-Kimberly Gibbs of Marion

Son- Phillip Gibbs of Herrin

Ten Grandchildren- Krystal, Kris, Cody, Autumn, Victoria, A.J., Gabrielle, Mykayla, Nickolas, and Dillan

Two sisters- Mildred and Melvin Flynn of Edwardsville

Bonnie Kirby of JohnstonCity

Grandmother-in-law- Ruth Copher of Herrin

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one grandchild- Ruth Gwodzick, two brothers- Carl and Leonard Gibbs, and one sister- Gurtie Bryan.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at LakeviewCemetery in JohnstonCity. Military honors will be provided by Marion’s VFW and American Legion Posts with assistance from the National Guard. Family and friends are asked to gather directly at the cemetery. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin is assisting the family with arrangements.
