Wanda Marie George

Cambria- Wanda Marie George, 85, of Cambria, passed away at 3:37 PM, Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Wanda was born on January 8, 1931 in Bush to Charlie and Lillian (Collier) Myers. She married Ben George, Jr on March 12, 1948 and together they have shared 68 wonderful years together. She was a homemaker who cared for her own family and babysat for others as well. She was a Christian and a member of the Rebekah’s in Carterville. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, running a trout line, camping or picnicking. She had a green thumb and had beautiful flowers, azaleas and peonies. She was a fair woman and a great cook. Survivors include- Husband- Ben George, Jr of Cambria Daughter- Charletta Beaver and husband Bob of Johnston City Son- Robert E. George and wife Charline of Johnston City Daughter- Pat Wood of Mulkeytown Son- Chuck George of Cambria Son- Jimmy George and wife Robin of Cambria Son- Danny George of Cambria Seven Grandchildren Twelve Great Grandchildren Six Great Great Grandchildren Several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 9, 2017 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. R. H. Chitwood will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
