Ruth Shoot

October 18, 1918 — October 23, 2016

Ruth Shoot, 98, of Marion passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 7:25 pm at Parkway Manor.  Ruth was born one of eleven children to Joseph and Lillian (Bennett) Worth on October 18, 1918.  She married Rex Shoot in Chicago on September 1, 1938 and together they shared over 64 years of marriage until his death on November 8, 2002.  Ruth’s family was the most important thing to her and she spent her life sharing her joy with them and always putting them first. When anyone was in the hospital, she either visited, sent cards, or took a meal or baked goody.  She was always sending cards to people, whether it was a get well greeting, thinking of you card, thank you note, plus the usual birthday, anniversary or holiday greeting cards.  She loved to have people over for a meal and would send leftovers home with her kids.  Christmas Eve she was up and down all night making homemade coffee cakes, baked them in the morning and delivered them hot to family and neighbors.   Our guess is she’ll become a cook in Heaven.  Those of you who have been a recipient of one of her pies, cobblers, cakes, blueberry muffins, coffee cakes, beef and noodles, chicken and dumplings, chop suey, etc. know what we mean.   She was a former member of the Marion Senior Citizens Kitchen Band and Wednesday night ladies bowling league. She was a member of the Jr. Women’s and Carpenter’s Ladies Auxiliary.  Survivors include her; Daughter – Shirley Harper and husband Tom of Visalia, California Daughter – Darlene Feurer and husband Larry of Marion Daughter – Nancy Spiller of Marion Son – Rex Shoot, Jr. of Marion Six grandchildren;   Sean Harper and wife Dawn   Laura Martin and husband Tony   Brett Feurer and wife Leslie   Aaron Spiller   Tyson Shoot and wife Susan   Noah Orso and husband Bart Eleven great grandchildren;   Cole Harper   Carlee Harper   Ashleigh McElroy and husband David   Dillon Feurer   Alison Childers and husband Kaleb   Gia Bella Orso   Lenix Orso   Matt Evrard   Cole Evrard   Gabe Evrard   Olivia Evrard Two great great grandchildren;   Viola McElroy   Levyk Evrard Several nieces and nephews  Preceded by her Parents, Husband – Rex Shoot and 10 brothers and sisters.    Funeral services will be Friday, October 28, 2016 at 1 pm at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. John Holst officiating.  Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10 am until the time of service at the funeral home.  For those who prefer memorials may be made to the Marion Senior Citizens Center, the Nancy spiller Go Fund Me Account or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois  62959.
