Ann Jennings

Carolyn Annette “Ann” Jennings, age 83, of Herrin, passed away at 4:04am on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Herrin Hospital. Carolyn was born in Marion on December 20, 1932, the daughter of Theodore and Jeanetta (Sutton) South. She married Everett Jackson Jennings on August 5, 1950 in Energy. They shared fifty years of marriage, until his passing on October 20, 2006. Mrs. Jennings was a member of the Herrin First Church of God.  Prior to her retirement, she worked as a seamstress for Sohn’s and Dillards, later doing alterations from her own shop, Ann’s Alterations.  For forty five years, Ann proudly hosted Christmas Eve Open Houses for her family, neighbors, and close friends sharing an abundance of food and love. Ann enjoyed bowling, sewing, and cooking. She was a prayer warrior, leading devotions at nursing homes in Marion. SURVIVORS: Son & daughter in law- Dan & Laura Jennings- Herrin Daughter & son in law- Ramona & David Doering- Herrin Daughter- Lori Jennings- Herrin Ten Grandchildren: Heather Miller- Herrin Leslie Miller- Marion Nicole Brown- West Frankfort Kimberly Doering- Herrin James and Austin Crabb- Marion Brittny Crabb- Herrin Lonnie Jennings- Herrin Eric and Siovhan Melvin- Herrin Alex Jennings- Herrin Adam Jennings- Herrin Great Grandchild- Lane Childers Great Grandchild- Shawn Brown Great Grandchild- Nicolas Brown Great Grandchild- Emma Robinson Great Grandchild- Bentley Brown Great Grandchild- Madyson Robinson Great Grandchild- Killian Crabb Great Grandchild on the way- Jude Melvin Sister- Kathy Allsbrook of Herrin Three brothers- Gary South of Marion Jim and Melissa Kirkpatrick of Florida Jack and Pam Norris of Hurst Several Nieces and Nephews Ann was preceded in death by her parents- Theodore and Jeanetta (Sutton) South, loving husband- Everett Jackson Jennings, her daughter- Kimberly Ann Jennings, sister- Ida South, and her brother and sister-in-law- Lawrence and Gladys South. The funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Herrin First Church of God. Pastor Dan Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Herrin First Church of God. Funeral arrangements have been provided by Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Memorial donations are suggested to the Herrin First Church of God and Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available and accepted at the services as well as Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th St/ Herrin, IL 62948.
