Marion- Mary Cook, age 69, of Marion, passed away at 7:10pm on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was born in East St. Louis, Illinois on November 23, 1951, the daughter of Peter Horlompovich and Olga Troyan. She married Carroll Gene Cook in Johnston City on October 30, 1970. Together, they have shared fifty one years of marriage.

Mary spent her life as a loving mother and wife. Mary enjoyed music, spending time in her flower garden, and photography. Taking pictures of her flowers brought her great joy. She was of Baptist faith, having attended Third Baptist Church in Marion and First Baptist Church in Energy, until her declining health prevented her.

Survivors include her loving husband- Carroll Gene Cook of Marion

Son- Derek Cook of Marion

Son- Ryan and Erin Cook of Glenview

Daughter- Larissa and John Elliott of Harrodsburg, Kentucky

Grandchildren- Allie, Rohan, Elena, Riddick, Lillian, Camille, Taylor, Hagan, Brady, Chandler, and Edelynn

Brother- Peter and Barbara Troyan of Thompsonville

Sister- Olichka and Issie Sopena of Lake in the Hills

Sister- Tamara and Harry Tidwell of Florida

Brother- Vasil Troyan of Florida

Sister- Luba Troyan of Marion

Brother- Victor Troyan of Danville

Several Nieces and Nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers- Nikolai Newland, John Troyan, and Michael Troyan, and one sister- Tina Winkler.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. James Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. A time of visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.

For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the SIH Cancer Institute or Hospice of Southern Illinois.  Envelopes will be available and accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home; 800 N Market Street; Marion, IL 62959.

    I am so sorry for your loss. I met Mary when we were children and she came to our house with her parents to visit us. We also visited at Mary’s house a few times. My parents immigrated from the Urkraine. We recently reconnected on Facebook.
