Marion- Joseph Omer Wall, age 85, of Marion, passed away at 2:20pm on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

Joseph was born in Creal Springs on January 12, 1936, the son of Omer C. and Stella M. (McGuire) Wall. He married Connie Ruth Blankenship on May 6, 1960 in Williamson County. She preceded him in death on October 22, 2013.

Mr. Wall had worked for Bethlehem Steel for more than twenty-nine years, retiring in 1998. He proudly served in the United States Army. Joe was a lifelong member of the Marion Elks Lodge #800.

Survivors include-

Son- Larry J. and Debbie Wall of Clarksville, MD

Daughter- Katherine E. Wall-Doise of Lowell, IN

Five Grandchildren- Evan J. Wall

     Andrew J. Wall

     Tyler J. Wall

     Sarah Patricia Doise

     Samuel James Doise

Great Grandson- Elias Samuel Doise

Two Brothers- Robert and Thelma Wall of Marion

     James and Norma Wall of Barberton, Ohio

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, daughter- Patricia J. Wall, and sister- Myrtle Lydioff.

As per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. The family will hold private memorial services at a later date. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with final arrangements.

For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the Marion Elks Lodge #800 and will be accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home; 800 N Market Street; Marion, IL 62959.

    Joe and I were good friends at Marion High School in the 1950’s and throughout life.     The class of 1955 is so special. We grew up together and we play such a huge roll in each others lives. Time may pass, but the fun time memories last forever. Joe will always be in the hearts of those left behind. We can still see him on the basketball court making us all proud to be a “Wildcat”. Just want the family and friends to know how special he was to all of us.

    I was saddened to get the news of Joe’s death. We were teammates on the Marion High School basketball teams of the early to mid-1950s. In addition to being an outstanding player, he had a great sense of humor who that helped brighten the moment regardless of the situation. May he rest in peace.

    When I was really little, Uncle Joe and Aunt Connie lived out in the country. He rode a horse, and had a set of loaded dice. He seemed like a cowboy. When I was a teenager I remember sitting by him, whenever there was a family poker game. (Which was often) Joe told funny stories, and knew how to tell a joke. He was fun to be around. Because of him, I know how to play poker, and I can tell a funny story. I can’t raise a glass, and make a toast without saying “To Better Days” because that’s what Uncle Joe always said, and it made me laugh. I promise you I am not a lush, nor a gambler, and neither was Uncle Joe.

    A very sad day with the passing of my older Brother Joe. He was and will always remain the patriarch of the Wall Family! During his life time journey, he encountered many obstacles as we all do, but he always had a positive attitude that it was merely another challenge to overcome and he always did. To him there was no mountain too high or too difficult to climb as he demonstrated all of his life. As a loving Father and Husband, he passed this positive thinking attitude on to his children and family – “Work hard and your dreams will come true”! He has now gone on to Paradise to rejoin his beloved wife Connie and daughter Patty. He will be direly missed, but will forever live on in our hearts and memories! Be at peace Brother Patriarch Joe!

    I’m so sad to hear of Joe’s Passing. Although I lost contact over the years, I have beautiful memories of Joe, Connie, Larry, Patty, Kathy and even Ted, their dog! When I was a very young girl, their family entrusted me with the care of the children. I had so much fun with them. This was my first job and I took it very seriously. I learned a lot from Connie about housekeeping and creativity. She was a very good wife and Mother. Joe was a sweet man who was very encouraging to me. I even have good memories of their family Granny B and Aunts that frequently dropped in. This was a wonderful family that has remained close to my heart! My heart goes out to Larry and Kathy first but to all remaining family and friends! We have lost a great man! God Bless you all!
