Vivian May Crofts, 102, of Marion, passed away at 7:55 AM, Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Parkway Manor in Marion. She was born on May 11, 1916 in Clarksburg, IL to Robert F. and Leona (Goddard) Barnett. She married Robert William Crofts, Jr. on July 9, 1938 in Albion Co., TN. He preceded her in death in 1959.

She was retired from working. She formerly worked as a homemaker, an activities director at a nursing home, driving a taxi and working at RR Donnelly (published telephone directories) in Chicago. Vivian was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Marion. She was a gifted musician and artist who was self-taught at playing the piano and spoons and won awards for her illustrations in children’s books. She was a member of the “Merry Music Makers” Kitchen Band of Marion and would perform at local nursing homes and hospitals. She was an active member of the Marion Senior Citizens and performed Tai Chi often. She was also a former member of the Marion American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the “Sports Riders of America”, which was a motorcycle club through the American Motorcycle Association.

Survivors include- Sons- James Crofts and wife Cheryl of Scottsdale, AZ Albert Brian Crofts of Carbondale Five grandchildren Seven great grandchildren Numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son- Robert Thomas Crofts, grandson- Michael James Crofts and four sisters.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Mitchell- Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Rev. Wade Halva will officiate. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Friday, May 17, 2019 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Memorial donations are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church in Marion and will be accepted at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home/ 800 N. Market/ Marion, IL 62959.

    Vivian was a strong woman with an indomitable spirit and a zest for living. She remained active and alert right up to the end of her full life. It was a privilege to have known her, and we certainly shall miss her!

    Vivian was a wonderful person. I met her when I played music in a band for Senior Citizen dances. She and a sister always greeted me with a smile. RIP Vivian.
