Vincent Joseph Talluto

Freeman Spur- Vincent Joseph Talluto, 102, of Freeman Spur, passed away at 9:15 AM, Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at his home.

Vincent was born on February 15, 1914 in Freeman Spur to Joe and Mary (Spuzzica) Talluto. He married Fern Waldron in 1937 in Illinois. She preceded him in death in 1989.

He retired from Old Ben #26 coal mine. He was one of the original miners that helped to sink that mine. He worked as cage man until his retirement in 1981. Prior to being a coal miner he worked several years for Olin Matheson during WWII.

He was catholic and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. He was also a member of the United Mine Workers of America. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors hunting for squirrel or rabbit, fishing or trapping muskrat and mink. He was an avid gardener and loved to garden and cook for his family every Sunday. He was an intelligent and witty man who was proficient in shorthand and typing. He enjoyed spending time with his family and will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved him.

Survivors include-

Daughter- Mary Jo Trumbley and husband Bob of Marion

Daughter- Judy Diane Kee of Johnston City

Son- Rick Talluto of West Frankfort

Son- Bob Ridings of Mulkeytown

9 grandchildren

21 great grandchildren

20 great great grandchildren

Several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and cousins

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandchild- Kim Taylor, son in law- George Kee and daughter in law- Nancy Talluto.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12 noon and extend to 12:45 PM, Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.

    What a nice man Vincent was! Great gardener, coal miner, and village clerk. He was also a good teacher. I learned a lot from Vince, and was lucky to know the Talluto clan when I grew up in the Spur!! DJ Johnson

    Last of the lawnmower shop boys.So sorry to hear about our buddy. He’s a doll.He taught my son a lot,lol. Never forget how he tried to teach momma to cook on a kerosene heater,no luck there.Every time I see a turtle I think of him making turtle soup !
