Marion- Rex A. Mitchell, 59, of Marion, passed away at 7:56 AM, Sunday, March 27, 2016 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

Rex was born on April 6, 1956 in Herrin to James E. and Martha I. (Carpenter) Mitchell. He married Evelyn Taylor on August 16, 1986 in Marion. She survives of Marion.

He formerly worked at Bowman’s Tire Mart and area restaurants. Rex attended the Community Chapel in Marion and was a member of Storm Spotters. He enjoyed listening to gospel music, listening to his many scanners and working on CB radios.

Survivors include-

Wife- Evelyn Mitchell of Marion

Son- James A. Mitchell of Marion

Step-Daughter- Sahara Smith of Marion

Brothers- Michael Carpenter and James Mitchell

Sisters- Linda Vaughn of Creal Springs and Rebecca Mitchell of Marion

Several nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 Am until time of service, Tuesday at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion.
