Larry Gene Howell, 67, of Carterville, passed away on Thursday, March 03, 2016 at 4:45 am at his home.
Larry was born January 26, 1949 in Carbondale the son of Claude Howell and Lucille (Radford) Whitehead. He married Dona Lee Gunnell on December 29, 1975 in Energy; together they have shared over 40 years of marriage.
He proudly served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Larry retired from the Illinois Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer at Shawnee. He was of the Baptist faith.

Wife – Dona Lee Howell of Carterville
Son – Matthew Howell and wife Gidion of Aurora
Daughter – Becky Howell and husband Adam Berry of Champaign
Mother – Lucille Whitehead of Carterville
Brother – Marvin Howell and wife Carolyn of Marion
Nephew – Tony Howell of California
Preceded by his Father – Claude Howell, Step-father – William Whitehead.
Memorial services will be Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 1 pm at New Horizons General Baptist Church in Marion with Rev. Rick Strole officiating. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with arrangements.
