Energy- Connie Lee Garten, 75, of Energy, passed away at 10:42 PM< Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Herrin Hospital.

Connie was born on June 13, 1940 in Herrin to James Claude and Helen (Davis) Shoemake. She married Stanley Keith Garten on June 25, 1969 in Metropolis. He survives of Energy.

Connie taught 2nd grade at Mulkeytown Grade School for many years and later worked as a substitute teacher at Herrin High School for several years prior to her retirement.

She was a member of Herrin First Christian Church. She was an animal lover, especially dogs. In her spare time she enjoyed craftwork, she formerly owned her own shop, gardening plants and flowers and travelling to various places with family and friends.

Daughter- Jeri Morthland and husband Rick of Logan
Daughter- Teri Spaven of Carterville

Linda Curlee and husband Jeff of Energy

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Herrin First Christian Church. Inurnment will take place in Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy at a later date. Memorial arrangements were made at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
