We are so sorry for your loss. Patty was one of the nicest persons I have or will ever meet. I worked with her for over 15 years. She always had a kind word of encouragement or an open ear to just listen when her fellow co-workers needed to talk. She was always upbeat and could always dish out humor, as well as, take a joke if it came her way. Away from the office, Patty could lift everyone’s spirits just by entering a room. She brought that same positive aura everywhere she went. I remember that first day in April, 1987, when I walked into the Marion office. There I stood nervous and uncertain about the future with my new job. Patty asked me to sit and talk with her until the administrator Ed Grumley returned from a smoke break. Patty made me feel right at home. Like we had been friends for years by the way she talked and laughed. By the time Ed returned, I was no longer nervous and unsure about being accepted as a coworker. She made me realize that I had nothing to be concerned about and this is where I belonged. Patty had that unique quality, that one so rarely encounters these days. If you are lucky, you may meet one such person in your life that possesses just such a quality. Patty was a special friend to both of us. I spoke to Patty for the last time about 8 months ago. We spoke at length about old remembrances and current happenings in our own lives. We could have talked for at least another hour, but it was necessary to cut short our talk. I could tell by the weakness in her voice, the conversation was overtaxing her. As always, when things got tough, she always kept going forward, trying never to let the situation get her down. I wandered then if that might be our last exchange.

We wish that we could be there to mark this closure of the life well lived by a special friend. We who were fortunate enough to have our life’s path cross with hers, are enriched by the encounter.

Patty, you will be missed. Godspeed.
