Herrin- Maxine Cornelius, 89, of Herrin, passed away at 9:20 AM, Monday, March 10, 2014 at Herrin Hospital.

Maxine was born on June 7, 1924 in Herrin to Ed and Nettie (Durham) O’Neal. She married Leon “Bones” Cornelius on September 19, 1942 in Vincennes, IN. He preceded her in death on February 17, 1980.

Maxine was retired after working for fifteen years in the accounting department of Diagraph Bradley.

She was a protestant and a member of the Herrin VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Herrin Senior Citizens. She was an excellent mother who doted over her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a keen sense of humor and strong opinions. She enjoyed travelling and Chicago Cubs Baseball.

Survivors include-

Daughter- Janice Wieland and husband Bud of Herrin

Daughter- Vicki Jeralds and husband Tom of Orland, IL

Daughter- Tina Biggs and husband Jeff of Bloomington

Son- Greg Cornelius and wife Sandra of St. Charles, MO

Seven Grandchildren:

Brett Wieland and wife Ramona of Herrin

Scott Jeralds of Orland

Bradley Jeralds of Orland

Julie Patchett and Larry Pusateri of Louisville, KY

Todd Cornelius and wife Tracey of Herrin

Mackenzie Biggs of Bloomington

Raegan Biggs of Bloomington

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two grandsons- Gregory Scott Cornelius and Joel Wieland and wife Shirley, four brothers and sisters.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Pastor Ken Petty will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9:00 PM, Friday, March 14, 2014 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.

Memorial donations are suggested to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church or Cornerstone Christian Academy in Bloomington, IL and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th ST/ Herrin, IL 62948.
