Arthur Leon Appleton

Herrin- Arthur Leon Appleton, age 84, of West Laco, Texas, formerly of Herrin, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at the JohnKnoxVillage in West Laco, Texas.

Arthur was born in Herrin on May 12, 1930, the son of Bailey and Laura Myrtle (Rodgers) Appleton. He married Betty Lou Gosnell in Joliet on May 14, 1983. She preceded him in death on October 16, 2003.

Mr. Appleton was a proud United States Navy Veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Herrin VFW, the Marion American Legion, and a lifetime member of the Herrin Eagles. Before his retirement, Arthur Leon worked on the hydrolic assembly line at the Caterpillar Company.

Survivors include his Sister- Betty Mae Appleton of Dearfield Beach, FL
Sister-in-law- Mary Ottolini of Herrin
Cousin- Roberta Donihi of Herrin
Cousin- Jean Sencibaugh of Lesterville, MO
Step-Daughter- Joan Lucas of Herrin

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, July 7, 2014 at EgyptianMemorialGardens in Energy with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Military honors will be performed by Herrin’s American Legion and VFW Posts. A visitation will be held from noon-1:00pm on Monday, July 7, 2014 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
